This bright and refreshing amaretto sour cocktail makes the perfect party drink. It is unique, refreshing, and only requires 3 ingredients.

The Amaretto Sour is a great classic drink to add to your cocktail repertoire. It is a staple in our house alongside favorites like the Bahama Mama and Sex On the Beach. It is a great drink that is perfect for a nightcap or sipping with friends on the front porch.

The best part is that its crazy simple to make too. It tastes just like you'd get at the bar, only cheaper!

Why This Cocktail Is a Winner

  1. Only 3 Ingredients: All are readily available at your local grocery or liquor store.
  2. Super Easy: No fancy equipment or blender required. Anyone can make this drink.
  3. Super Refreshing: Great for hot summer days!

Ingredient Notes and Shopping Tips

  • Amaretto: Amaretto is a sweet liquor that comes from Italy. It's name literally means "little bitter". It has a nutty almond flavor which can vary depending on the brand you use. My favorite brand is Amaretto di Amore. Dekuyper  is also good.
  • You can also use homemade amaretto in this recipe.
  • Sweet and Sour Mix: This gives the drink that familiar citrus taste it is known for: part sweet, and part sour. Look for it in the mixers section of your grocery store near the tonic water.  You can also make it from scratch if desired.
  • Sprite: Any lemon lime soda will work here, Sprite is just my favorite.

Variations:

  1. Amaretto Stone Sour: Add orange juice.
  2. Whiskey Sour: Use whiskey or bourbon instead.
  3. Make it boozier: Add a splash of vodka or rum.
  4. Add an egg white: Shake with a pasteurized egg white for a frothier drink.
  5. Non Alcoholic: Use sour mix, sprite, and amaretto syrup.
  6. Pitcher: You can make this drink for a crowd as long as you keep the ration of three parts amaretto to two parts sour mix.

How To Make An Amaretto Sour

  1. Fill glass with ice. Combine amaretto and sour mix.
  2. Pour into glass. Top off with Sprite.

Tips and Tricks

  1. Ice Cubes: Use sour mix or juice to make ice cubes to avoid a watered down drink.
  2. No cocktail shaker? No problem! Use a mason jar instead.
  3. Strength: Containing one serving of alcohol, this cocktail is considered one standard drink. The effects of alcohol will be different on every person so always be sure to drink responsibly. I will say though that it's also one of those drinks to keep your eye on because it tastes so good you really do forget that there is any alcohol in it at all!
  4. Don't Make In Advance: Make right before serving so the soda pop doesn't lose its fizz.
